Men like Cool Papa Bell, so fast they said he could flip off the light switch and be in bed before the room went dark. Josh Gibson, the catcher they called the Black Babe Ruth, launching balls into skies that segregation tried to keep small. These men played ball in the same era that Johnson, Charley Patton, Son House, and Willie Brown were laying down the raw, aching foundation of the Delta Blues — all of them drawing from the same well of resilience, rhythm, and refusal to be ignored.

The Delta Blues didn't stay put. It traveled north on Highway 61 — the same road that carried sharecroppers, dreamers, and musicians to Chicago, Memphis, and beyond. Muddy Waters plugged in his guitar and electrified the sound. Howlin' Wolf made the walls shake. B.B. King named his guitar Lucille and made her sing. What started as a man alone with a guitar in a Mississippi field became the backbone of rock and roll, soul, and every genre that followed. The music evolved. But the roots? They never changed.
